Pre-tour Winton
One or two days can be spent exploring Winton and surrounds:
Day 1 Winton to Boulia (355km)
We begin our Central West Adventure heading west from Winton. Our first stop is Middleton, where we'll have a cold drink with the locals at the hotel. A short distance out of town we will stop off at the Cawnpore Lookout in the Lilyvale Hills where the spectacular views of this rugged country stretch on forever. On arrival at Boulia we will experience the mysterious phenomenon of the illusive Min Min Lights.

Day 2 Boulia to Birdsville (399km, approx 160km unsealed)
This morning we visit the Stonehouse Museum to see how the pioneers lived, before heading south to Bedourie. Here we will have lunch at the Simpson Desert Oasis, and even have time for a relaxing artesian spa. Continuing on to Birdsville, we will stop to view prolific birdlife at Carcory Ruins and Cuttaburra Crossing. Soak up the atmosphere and have a drink tonight in the famous Birdsville Hotel.

Day 3 Birdsville
Birdsville, in Queensland's Diamantina, captures the very essence of Australia. Discover the character of Birdsville as you visit the Blue Poles Art Gallery, Pelican Point, Burke & Wills' campsite and the Dingo Caves. Venture into the Simpson Desert this afternoon and conquer the mighty sand dunes. In season, the wildflowers have to be seen to be believed. As you watch the sun set from Big Red you will see the colours of the desert magically transform.

Day 4 Birdsville to Windorah (394km, 277km unsealed)
We have a bit of distance to cover today to get to Windorah, so we do it at leisure, leaving the afternoon free to rest and refresh.

Day 5 Windorah
Today we explore the diverse beauty of the Barcoo, with stunning vistas, picturesque ruins and historical sites. Just to the west of town are the magnificent red sand dunes. We now follow a scenic nature drive to mighty Cooper Creek where you will be amazed at the abundance of birds and wildlife.

Day 6 Windorah to Longreach (310km)
An early start today as we complete the final leg of our Central West Adventure travelling on to Longreach. En route we will stop off in the country towns of Jundah and Stonehenge as well as enjoy the natural beauty of the Rock Holes and Swanvale Lookout.
